Complete Guide to Prompts

When to use actions versus prompts, how reference images work, and how to write prompts for each feature.

This page pulls together how to think about prompts across all features. Once you understand when to use a prompt versus an action, how reference images work, and the key points for each feature, you'll get closer to the result you want.

Actions vs. Prompts

  • Single edits (such as one replacement) → Use an action to specify it simply and in a structured way.
  • Combined edits (such as several changes at once) → Write freely in the Prompt.

Where You Can Use Reference Images

You can use reference images (example images) in three places: in Smart Edit requests and the Apply Style mode on the Edit tab, and under Add Reference in the Style picker on the Render tab. Staging and Video prompts don't accept reference images.

Key Points by Feature

  • AI Render: Add details about the finish you want, then click Optimize prompt to polish it.
  • AI Staging: For every mode except Empty Room, the prompt is everything. Describe the furniture and mood in specific terms.
  • AI Image Editor: Use actions for single edits and prompts for combined edits. If you have an example, attach it as a reference image in Smart Edit.

💡 Tip: If you're struggling to write a prompt, type whatever words come to mind and click Optimize prompt for better accuracy.
